Syrian swimmer Saleh Mohammad on Friday won the golden medal in 10 km marathon swim at the Asian Open Water Swimming Championship currently held in Kazakhstan. Today's win is Mohammad's second in the Championship after he earned Wednesday the silver medal in 5 km race. "Mohammad's winning of the medal gold of Asian Championship is an incentive for him to achieve more wins and reach more advanced places," Secretary of the Swimming Union, Omar Ashour, said in a statement to SANA sports reporter. Ashour pointed out that Mohammad is participating in the 25 km swim in the FINA World Open Water Swimming Championship scheduled to be held in Spain next month. Mohammad holds the fifth place in the list of professional swimmers in the world's longest open water race. Last February, Mohammad won the third place in 88 km Parana race in Argentina within the series of World Open Water Championships. He won the golden medals of 5 km swim and 10 km swim within the competitions of the 1st Asian Beach Games which took place in the Indonesian city of Bali in 2008. Mohammad also earned the gold medal in 5 km race and the silver medal in 10 km race within the 2nd Asian Beach Games held in Oman in 2010. Source: SANA
