The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will open today its Sports village at Doha Corniche next to Q-Post on occasion of the National Sport Day (NSD). The QOC has announced that its NSD celebrations will continue until February 11 at the Sports Village, where multiple sport activities and programs are dully prepared for all age groups including, men , women, youth and children. The country’s governing sport body unveiled at a press conference held on Wednesday, the program of its activities as well as the events to be organized by the NSD sponsors. The press conference was attended by Khaleel Ibrahim Al Jabir, Director of the QOC Sports Affairs Department, Fisal Saleh Al Mansoori, Director of the QOC Public Relations and Marketing Department, Khawla Khalid, Head of the QOC International Relations Section and Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdulaiz Al Thani, Head of the NSD Media. Fisal Al Mansoori extended his appreciation to NSD Sponsors including ExxonMobil, Sports Corner, Astad Project Management, Zoom Events and Production, VLCC Slimming, Skin and Hair Services, Aspetar, Weil Cornell Medical College, Jungle Zone and LuLu. To be opened on Thursday, Al Mansoori stressed that the QOC Sports Village includes a number of tents for sports activities including Equestrian, Volleyball, Tennis Table Tennis, Football, Shooting, Archery, Handball and Basketball. From cycling to swimming, football to basketball, tennis to tae kwon do, countless free sporting sessions accessible to all, will be taking place throughout Qatar as the celebrations to highlight the importance of healthy living reach a new peak. Khaleel Al Jabir stressed that the NSD aims to give the people of Qatar an opportunity to kickstart a future of healthy living with an unrivalled schedule of free sporting events across the country. For her part, Khowla Khalid announced the winners of the QOC Weight Losing Contest “Be Fit” including; Khalid Waleed Fadi, Talal Al Tamimi, Adel Abdefadel, Nasser Al Mohannadi, Mona Salim, Ahoud Mohammad, Mostafa Mahjoub, Sebaika Al Nasr, Salma Al Emam Mansour, Ghudnana Mohammad, Kamaladin Ahmad Darwish, Sameh Mohamad Eisa, Ahmad Fakhro, Salwa Mahmoud, Maha Ali, Emad Jameel Asaad, Mohammad Al Rumahi, Ibrahim Ghargouli and Ayed Ali. She added that the first place winners will be announced on Sunday. Likewise, Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani reaffirmed that the NSD will feature exceptional sport programs and activities for citizens and residents. National Sport Day’s first edition was kicked off in February 2012 pursuant to the supreme Emiri Decree No. 80 for the year 2011 on 06 December 2011, concerning the State’s National Sport Day. the Decree states that Tuesday in the second week of February each year will be the State’s National Sports Day.
