Muharraq recorded a hard - fought 3 - 2 victory over Al Buhair as they began their title quest on a high note in the First Khalid bin Hamad Youth Centres Football League, being held at Hamad Town Youth Centre grounds. In their opening Group ‘A’ tie, Muharraq took firm control on the early stages and took a deserving lead in the 38th minute through Yaqoub Abdulla’s penalty-kick conversion. Muharraq continued to press forward and it took them just six minutes later to double their advantage through Bader Mohsin, who capitlalised on a counter attack from the midfield. The early proceeding in the second-half saw Buhair pile the pressure on Muharraq, but they conceded a third goal through Hazem Mohammed in the 60th minute. It could have been 4-0 in the 62nd minute when Muharraq were awarded a penalty kick after Khalid Khamis was fouled inside the penalty area. However, Abdulla Mohammmed was unable to convert the kick, watching his effort denied by the woodwork. Excitement mounted later on as Al Buhair were given a penalty kick in the 67th minute through Ebrahim Al Masoudi, and the same player reduced the deficit to one goal just a minute before the final whistle. Tournament action, meanwhile, continues today when Safra face Salmabad at 5pm. It will be followed by Busaiteen vs Southern Governorate team at 7pm. All matches will take place at Hamad Town Youth Centre. The event is being organized by the General Organization for Youth and Sports (Goys), patronised by First Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and sponsored by GPIC.
