Minister of Information Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Sabah highly commended the sports achievements of Kuwaiti karate players during the 17th Incheon Asian Games.
Sheikh Salman, who doubles as Minister of State for Youth Affairs, hailed, in a statement released by the ministry, karate player Rashed Al-Mutairi's gold medal win in the over-84-kg division.
The minister lauded Hamad Al-Nuwai'em and Ali Al-Shatti for winning silver and bronze medals in the karate tournament of the Asian Games.
The Kuwaiti karate team's win of three medals reflects the continuing development of karate sport in the country, Sheikh Salman said, appreciating the great efforts of Kuwait Karate Federation Chairman Sheikh Khaled Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah and the federation's board members.
The 17th Asian Games or ASIAD concluded all the competitions here earlier on Saturday, with China coming first with 342 medals.
From the bonanza of 439 events, China reaped 342 medals, including 151 golds, 108 silvers and 73 bronzes, to keep their dominance at the Asian Games for the ninth consecutive times.
Host South Korea were pushed to a distant second place with 234 medals involving 79 golds, 71 silvers and 84 bronzes, but well ahead of rivals Japan which placed third with 200 medals.
Kuwait's tally in the ASIAD now hit 12 medals with three golds, five silvers, and four other bronze.
