The International Hockey Federation has chosen Kuwait to host the Asia Hockey Cup tournament due in April, Kuwait Winter Games Club announced on Monday.
The Club Chairman, Fehaid Al-Ajmi, told KUNA the IHF took this decision during meetings with its Asian counterpart, held in Singapore, affirming that selection of Kuwait to host the games constitutes a major achievement for the Kuwaiti club at the international and continental levels.
Holding major competitions in Kuwait would contribute to promoting this sport locally and regionally, he said, indicating that the tournament would be quite inspiring for more than 300 young athletes, being trained by the club.
Al-Ajmi noted that the IHF approval to hold the Asian championship in Kuwait was due to the club success in organizing two Gulf tournaments, latest of which was held in June.
He lauded the major support, given by the Chairman of Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and his deputy, Ahmad Al-Khazaal, for the winter games, particularly hockey.
