The official draw for the 2015 AFC Cup, held in Kuala Lumpur, set Syrian al- Wahda Football team, the winner of the Republic Football Cup, in Group A with the Jordanian teams of al-Wahdat or Zat Ras, Omani al-Nahda or al-Sweiq teams and a playoff winner. Al-Jaish, the second Syrian football team will play the preliminary tournament of the championship.
The draw included 14 football teams which were distributed to 4 groups for West Asia and 4 for East Asia.
West Asia teams were devided as : Group B including teams of Iraq’s al-Shurta, Jordanian al-Jazira, Palestinian al-Nis and a playoff winner.
Group C: including teams of Kuwaiti al-Qadisiyeh or al-Arabi , Iraqi Arbil Iranian al-Istiklal, and a
playoff winner.
Group D: including teams of Bahraini al-Rifaa or al-Manameh, Kuwaiti al-Kuwait , Lebanese al-Najmeh and a playoff winner.
Syrian football teams have remarkable achievements in AFC championship as al-Jaish won its first edition in 2004 after defeating al-Wahda, while al-Itihad won 2010 edition after defeating the Kuwaiti al-Qadisiyeh team.
