Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), "The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East", will this week host an action-packed second round of the 2014/2015 Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship.
The meeting will kick off with back-to-back evenings of Test and Tune on Tuesday and Wednesday (November 25 and 26) night. It will be followed by Qualifying on Thursday (November 27), leading up to Race Day on Friday (November 28).
BIC’s world-class quarter-mile drag strip will host all the racing. The strip is a member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Worldwide Network, qualifying the championship as an NHRA-sanctioned event. The round has been organised by BIC in cooperation with the Bahrain Drag Racing Club and the Bahrain Motor Federation.
More than 100 drag racers from around the Gulf, as well as a handful from the United States, are expected to take part. They will be battling it out in 13 different categories, including 10 for cars and three for motorbikes. Each of the participants will be aiming to collect the maximum number of points from the event as they aim to ultimately clinch their class title by the end of the season after five rounds.
Aside from the champion’s trophy, they will also be able to take home a "Wally" – a prominent award in drag racing that is only given to champions of NHRA-sanctioned events. All are welcome to attend this week’s drag racing. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
Tickets to the Test and Tune cost BD2 each night. For Qualifying and Race Day, tickets are BD5 for both days at the Start Line Grandstand, while tickets are BD3 for both days at the Batelco Grandstand. Children aged up to 12 years old can attend for half the price.
Racing on Tuesday and Wednesday night is scheduled to take place between 8pm and 12midnight. On Thursday and Friday, racing resumes at 4pm. Meanwhile, taking place on the sidelines of all the action will be BIC’s Dragster Xpereince – one of the circuit’s most sought-after public activities. Clients get into one of BIC’s three-seater Top Dragsters for a run down the quarter-mile strip in mind-boggling speed, powering from zero to 100kph in just one second. The Dragster Xperience costs BD40 per person and the activity can be done at any time during the upcoming meeting.
Following this week’s events in the Bahrain Drag Racing Championship, the season’s third round is scheduled to take place December 16 to 19 at BIC. Round four will be held from February 24 to 27 next year, paving the way for the championship finale from March 3 to 6.
This week’s action follows a hugely exciting season-opener held last month when two new class records were set and a pair of hotly contested finals were decided by a mere two-hundredths-of-a-second.
