Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, will this weekend be holding back-to-back activities that give members of the public a chance to experience the most unique thrills of motor racing. On Friday (Ed’s Note: December 28, 2012), BIC will be opening its doors for an Open Track Day, to be followed on Saturday (December 29) by a Track Xperience. Wannabe racers of all levels and general motorsport enthusiasts alike can enjoy either event. In the Open Track, interested participants can get a chance to bring their very own road car or motorbike and race around the world-class desert circuit. With no speed limits or impeding traffic, participants will have the chance to push their car or bike to its very maximum. All this is done within a safe and controlled environment. Those interested in participating in the Open Track Day can enjoy either a full day’s drive or a half-day’s participation. The whole day activity is from 9am to 4pm and it costs BD85. The half-day option offers two sessions to choose from: the first is between 9am and 12noon while the other is from 1pm to 4pm. Each half-day session costs BD60. Prior to taking their vehicles out for the Open Track, each car or motorbike must first be inspected by officials. There will then be a safety briefing facilitated by BIC’s highly qualified professional driving instructors to discuss the safety, driving rules and techniques, circuit information, and how to handle emergency situations while out on the tarmac. Apart from the Open Track activity, visitors to BIC on Friday can enjoy a few other activities that offer the unique thrills of top-class motoring. Guests can get into an ultra-light 160bhp Caterham race car and be taken around the track by one of BIC’s highly qualified professional drivers. This Caterham passenger ride costs BD12 per person. For a different kind of thrill, a 4x4 Passenger Ride in a Land Rover LR4 will also be available on the day. This activity will take them across the world-renowned 5.3-kilometre off-road course, which features nearly 30 tantalising obstacles. The passenger ride costs BD12. Those who may wish to take on the challenge of getting behind the wheel of the LR4 and maneuvering the course themselves, a 4x4 drive is available for BD65. Meanwhile, on Saturday, BIC will be offering race fans the ultimate adrenaline rush with its widely popular Track Xperience. This high-octane activity, a favourite at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, gives members of the public a chance to power down the BIC race track in some of the most electrifying road cars ever built, such as a 291bhp Mitsubishi Evo X, a 210bhp Hyundai Genesis 2.0T and a 160bhp Caterham G7. The Track Xperience boasts over 10 laps of mind-boggling speed while lasting for around two hours of adrenaline-charged track time. The entire package costs just BD115. All those interested in taking part in Saturday’s Track Xperience must hold a valid driver’s licence, one that has been issued for at least a year. It must be presented to officials at BIC when registering for the activity on the day. Participants will also need to follow a strict dress code prohibiting them from wearing shorts or open-toed footwear for the event. Helmets will be provided on site and must be worn at all times throughout the Track Xperience. For further information on the Open Track Day, Track Xperience or on any of the other experiences at BIC, visit the circuit’s official website, www.bahraingp.com, or call the BIC Hotline on +973-17-450000.
