The Al Jasmi brothers Saeed, Obaid, Bakheet and Faisal were presented the Guinness World Record certificate at a grand ceremony held at the Hamdan Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Guinness World Record certificate was to acknowledge the Emirati brothers achievement of being the first team of brothers to compete in the 4x100-metre relay at the Swimming World Championships in 2010.
The Al Jasmi brothers represented the U.A.E. in the 4x100m freestyle relay on the opening day of the Fina World Swimming Championships (25m) at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex in Dubai thereby gaining entry into the Guinness Book of Records as the first set of brothers to compete together as a foursome in the Short Course Worlds.
"To be in the World Guinness record is a first for U.A.E.,” said Obaid who had also set a new national record in the 400-metre freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 12 seconds at the President's Swimming Championships in 2010.
"I always wanted to enter the Guinness World Record looked forward to this moment for a long time, I would like thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, U.A.E. Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council for giving us the opportunity to train in such a world class complex,” said a beaming Obaid.
"It is the best swimming pool in the world and it has all the facilities to train world class athletes.
"I would also like to thank my father and mother and my brothers. Hopefully now we will win more laurels at home. This win is for all U.A.E.,” said Obaid.
Obaid, the oldest brother and also the U.A.E. team captain, said he was overjoyed with his family's accomplishment.
"My father was involved with the team maybe that is the reason we took swimming seriously. We are six brothers, not four. For the relay is meant for four swimmers,” informed Obaid.
The Al Jasmi bothers love challenge. "It keeps us motivated. It's always a challenge between us bothers, we brought this challenge to the fore by emerging on top in U.A.E. today.
"We always wanted to see who is the best in the family and we always did spend more time in the pool. We have competed against the best in the 4x50 relay and beat some foreign swimmers too,” said a jubilant Obaid.
"It's such a big achievement for the whole of the U.A.E..” The Emirates team — with Saeed and Obaid completed the quartet with a time of 3mins 35.72secs. The Al Jasmi brothers finished 27.94 seconds behind Russia.
