London - FIFA

Orlando Pirates enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United in their South African Premiership match Friday to equal league leaders Kaizer Chiefs' 31 points tally. Midfielder Oupa Manyisa scored the opener in the 33rd minute, and Pirates led 1-0 after the first half despite strong play by Maritzburg. The lead widened with Andile Jazi's header off a cross from Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma in 57th minute. Maritzburg put in a determined fight, but could not score after Zimbabwe-born Cuthbert Malajila netted the ball in the 79th. Chiefs still lead the table through goal difference, but may take the lead again in a Saturday match against Pretoria University. Third-placed Platinum Stars trail by three points, and could also challenge the leadership if they beat SuperSport United.
