Jurgen Klinsmann signed a four-year contract extension with the United States which will see the former Germany star remain as coach until the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, US Soccer said. As well as head coach, the 49-year-old will also become the technical director for all US national squads. "I am very fortunate to continue the work we started more than two and a half years ago," Klinsmann said. "It's exciting to see the progress we have made, and we continue to make improvements on all fronts." Klinsmann has been at the US helm for two years and will be in charge for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil having steered the team to top spot in CONCACAF qualifying. The US also won a fifth Gold Cup title this year as well as stunning Germany 4-3 in a friendly in June. Klinsmann's team will meet Germany again in the World Cup next year having been drawn in the same Group G as the former champions as well as Ghana and Portugal. "One of the reasons we hired Jurgen as our head coach was to advance the program forward and we've seen the initial stages of that happening on the field and also off the field in various areas," US Soccer president Sunil Gulati said. "In the past two years he has built a strong foundation from the senior team down to the youth teams and we want to continue to build upon that success." Source: FIFA.com
