Investment minister aims to attract $15bn Khartoum- Abedalgoum Ashmeag The Sudanese government has said that they hope to attract nearly $15bn US dollars of Saudi investment. The Sudanese Minister of investment, Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail, stressed during the opening session of the Saudi -Sudanese forum, that the Sudanese government are interested in removing all obstacles to investment. The government intends to launch 300 projects in the fields of agriculture, animal industry, mining and infrastructure. The sessions of the forum, which began in Riyadh on Saturday, provide a platform for the two countries to discuss trade and investment. Speaking at the forum, Ismail fielded the possibility of creating a new law that encourages and regulates investment. The Sudanese minister reviewed the new investment environment in his country, and the establishment of infrastructure for private investment in the agricultural field. The Sudanese Trade Minister Osman Omar Sharif and a number of governors of States participated in the Forum. The Sudanese Ambassador to Riyadh, Abdalhafez Ibrahim said that the forum will include morning and afternoon sessions, noting that it tackles a set of working papers reviewing Saudi agricultural investment abroad and public policies on economy, investment and trade in the Sudan. There was also was a paper by the private sector of Sudan. The Sudanese Minister of Investment revealed that the volume of foreign investment in Sudan is between 28 to 30 billion US dollars. He also pointed out that the Gulf invests heavily in Sudan, as well as the Chinese who rank first in foreign investors.
