London - Arabstoday

When turned on, TV looks like its floating London - Arabstoday Japanese electronics manufacturer Phillips has announced the release of a new TV – designed to look like pane of glass.  The new DesignLine sets have been designed to 'disappear' into a room when not in use. The Front is made from one seamless sheet of glass, and when switched off appears as a black 'window'. The new DesignLine TV will feature 117cm (46”) and 140cm (55”) screen sizes and will be available in the UK in June 2013 priced at £2000 and £2800. “The new TV carries the Philips DesignLine hallmark of lightness and transparency; a TV without a neck, without a stand and without a visible frame, one seamless sheet of glass leaning against a wall,” the firm says. Rod White, Senior Creative Director at TP Vision, which helped develop the TV, said: “By consciously designing a system which offers implicit performance, but in a language focused on interior context we offer a true Object of Desire”. “In standby mode, the TV’s frameless glass front displays a smooth, translucent flow from black opaque to transparent, which becomes invisible when watching TV,” the firm said. It also has lights on three sides that project coloured light in sync with the picture behind the screen, which Philips says add to the effect the screen if floating.
