Al-Ain Zoo, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council's Sayfuna Mumayaz 2014 campaign, has announced the launch of its latest programme, "My Hobby" (Hiwayati).
The programme takes place from Sunday to Wednesday and highlights Al Ain Zoo's commitment to position itself as a leading summer activity centre during the campaign. It is open to 60 students aged between 8-13 years old.
The My Hobby summer programme features a number of educational activities and competitions including treasure hunts and team building games. Students will be given the opportunity to create animal figures, learn about zoo keepers' care for the animals, and uncover their talent and creativity through real life on-the-job experience at the zoo's many departments.
The zoo will also share an educational story about the Arabian Oryx, followed by a group activity where the students will be encouraged to propose a conservation programme to protect the species from extinction.
The programme also includes new initiatives, like the talk on How to be a Tour Guide at Al Ain Zoo, an educational presentation on recycling cardboard paper, and an educational video about the environment and genetic diversity in the U.A.E..
Tours will give students the opportunity to explore the zoo's animal exhibits, including a visit to the Children's Zoo and the Reptile House, encouraging them to interact with the animals by feeding the giraffes, camels and ponies. They will also be taught how to identify animal species.
A closing ceremony will be held on July 16th, when the students will be presented with a participation certificate and prizes will be awarded to the winners of the competitions.
