Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Ali Reza Enayati said Monday Iranian and Gulf people "share religion and blood," affirming Tehran's keenness to contributing to peace in the area.
Enayati was reacting to queries in a news conference, held to mark the 36th commemoration of the Iranian revolution, that some regional countries were concerned about "Iran's actions." He brushed aside these concerns "because we don't mean harm to the other side in this region with the exception of the (1990) Iraqi invasion of kuwait and its aggression against Iran." The Islamic revolution in Iran is based on liberty, independence and Islam, said Enayati. "Liberty means we are free in adopting our decisions at all levels, but that does not mean we don't consider our regional surrounding." The road to freedom enabled the Iranian people to head to polling stations for the past 36 years, said Enayati.
Iran "wants to be a role model in the world and among political regimes, and that laws be based on Islamic sharia as well as coordination between political framework of the republic and Islamic visions," he said.
On Iranian President Hassan Rohani's upcoming visit to Kuwait, Enayati said it would follow a visit by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Tehran last year. The date of the visit has not been set yet, he noted.
