He was on his way to Salalah to start his new job when the misfortune struck, shattering all of his dreams and the dreams of his wife and children and our family at large. We have been so upset since that day.”
The human cost behind the recent fatal bus crash on the Muscat to Salalah road has come into stark focus after the brother of one of the victims, who died in the accident, spoke of their loss.
Mohammed Nowsad had been away from his family for more than two years and was planning to go home to his young children in Bangladesh soon, but that will not happen now after the accident, which took place in the Qarn Al Alam area near Adam.
Two people died, including Nowsad, and several others were wounded, including one victim who lost half a leg. Mizanur, Nowsad’s brother, who is a resident of Salalah, said, “He sustained injuries in his head, his chest was torn apart, and he succumbed instantly. His body is still in Nizwa Hospital, we will be flying it back soon.”
Nowsad, 37, had been a resident of Muscat and was travelling from the capital to Salalah to start a new job. After losing his job recently he had secured a new work visa for a tailoring job in Salalah. “My brother came here two and a half years ago and was trying hard to go back to see his family ever since, but the conditions here did not allow him to go back.”
“He was due to go back to Bangladesh during the Eid holidays, and his family was really happy, but that will not happen now.”
Nowsad is survived by his wife and three young children aged, nine, seven and five. “It’s a very difficult time for us; the family has been weeping since they got the news,” said Mizanur.
He hopes that people will one day drive in a better manner, which will not result in more deaths like his brother’s. “My brother passed away; every day many people die in road accidents, they don’t realize this can happen to them, but it does.”
Nowsad’s body has been kept at the Nizwa Hospital for 10 days now and it might take another week or more to fly his remains to Bangladesh.
“There are some issues with flying the body back, I was not getting a flight ticket at first; we also need to complete paperwork with the ROP, Muscat Municipality and the hospital, and that might take a while, maybe six days or something. Our family back home has been asking me to get the body as soon as possible, but there are some things I need to first finish here, which are taking time.”
