Journalist Ayman Salameh Khan Younes - Kamal El Yazeji Palestinian Journalist, Ayman Salameh, from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, is in a critical state after suffering kidney failure, and tragically the Palestinian Government in Ramallah has refused to grant his kidney donor a passport to enable him to travel with Salameh abroad to have a kidney replacement operation. Salameh is currently on dialysis at the Naser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis waiting for his kidney donor to be granted a passport. Media personality Imad Salim Mohsin has made it clear that he is willing to donate his monthly salary, which he receives from the Ramallah government, if they were to grant the kidney donor a passport. In a statement to the press Mohsin said: “There is no doubt that I’m offering the Ramallah government an offer that they can’t refuse, which will help to achieve the government’s aims with regard to the “financial crisis” that it has been experiencing lately.” He added: “The deal is that I will exchange my modest monthly salary, which is only that of a Head of department’s salary, in return for the granting of Salameh’s donor’s passport, to enable him to travel abroad with Salameh.” Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are still deprived of owning a passport under the excuse of “security reasons” as stated by the Ministry of Interior. This threatens the lives of many Palestinian patients. Several months ago Fatah Central Committee member, Nabil Shaath, promised Palestinians that he would find a solution for this problem. However, human rights organizations confirm that the issue is still ongoing and warned of its implications on the Palestinian people’s rights and the Palestinian reconciliation.
