Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani Doha - QNA HE Chairperson of the Board of Trustees Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani said Monday that the State of Qatar was ready to take part in any international efforts to enhance the role of women in development all over the world . Speaking at the UNCTAD XIII High-Level meeting on Women in Development held in Doha today, HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa that the role of Women in Development represented a great priority for the State of Qatar developmental plans. HE added that Qatar welcomed hosting the event due to their belief in the important role women can play in guaranteeing stability and prosperity in the world. HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa said that she expected the Women in Development Event would give a boost to the role of women in their respective societies adding that there will be a number of respected figures who will discuss, and eventually formulate, a clear vision of how to enable women to become an equal partner in the development process. HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa stressed the importance of discussing women's issue, particularly during the changes the Arab world was going through, and which is of great importance,particularly as women played a noticeable in the Arab revolutions. HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa also said that participants in the event, as a result of the mobilization of Arab people, must look to find solutions that understands the expectations of the societies. HE stressed that the current economic atmosphere must not act as a hindrance to supporting women. HE Sheikha Al Mayassa also stressed that the State of Qatar's policies were based on the notion that men and women, in a family, were strategic partners for development. HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa called on the participants in the Women in Development to move past making recommendations to providing a complete recommendation. HE also stressed that Qatar was ready to take part in any effort that would translate the event's recommendations, into applicable programs. HE Sheikha Al Mayassa referred to the words of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani that stressed on Qatar's commitment to the recommendations that will come out of UNCTAD XIII. HH the Emir also stressed the country's due keenness to share the experience of empowering the family as a whole, to become the main component of development. HE Sheikha Al Mayassa called on the participants of the UNCTAD XIII they must take into consideration the UN's time limit of 2015 for the Millennium's Developmental Goals, when they write up their recommendations,particularly as HH Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser was a member of the MDG Advocacy Group that defended the Millennium goals. HE Sheikha Al Mayassa also stressed that the goal of UNCTAD XIII was to develop an agenda that would make the conference a new addition that could help bring back respect to human beings, regardless of their gender. Since they were the makers and purpose of change, HE added.
