The French consulate in New York was evacuated for about one hour on Saturday due to a suspicious vehicle and a bomb threat, French diplomatic sources said.
Police officers in New York called for the evacuation of the consulate building, while French expatriates were registered to cast ballots in their presidential election, after a suspicious vehicle was found, Consul General Anne-Claire Legendre said.
After the attack on the French police in the Champs Elysees Avenue on Thursday, the New York police department was told to be "especially vigilant," she said.
Dozens of people who were inside the building waited outside the building while authorities checked the vehicle.
After about 50 minutes, the situation returned to normal, consulate press officer Amelie Geoffroy said, adding that what happened did not last long and did not disrupt the voting process.
There are about 28,500 French citizens living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut registered in the consulate's electoral lists and cast their ballots a day before citizens in France to elect a new president to replace Francois Hollande.
