Ecuadorian Ambassador in Cairo German Espinoza Cuenca on Saturday expressed deep sadness about damage caused by a 7.8 earthquake that hit Ecuador last Saturday, leaving more than 600 dead and 12,492 injured, while 130 people are still missing.
In statements to MENA, the ambassador said that Ecuador can not be compensated for people who lost their lives, but will move forward to rebuild the country.
Ecuador has no choice but to open up to the world with no place to despair in hearts, he added.
Ecuador was hit by 700 aftershocks since the main earthquake last Saturday, the ambassador said.
The quake, the worst in nearly seven decades, destroyed the infrastructure of whole villages and towns and caused a cut off of electricity and telephone lines, along with leaving thousands homeless in the capital, Quito, he added.
