In a new strategy, the Daesh terrorist organization has started recruiting people with criminal and immoral backgrounds, or those who are mentally sick or have served time in prison.
The group thinks that recruiting such youth is easier and cheaper, as they do not need any money or protection, according to an online newspaper.
The Sakina Campaign, which works to correct deviant ideas, has published a study which said that Daesh believes that using people with criminal backgrounds doesn’t require anything except for giving them direction, and determining the place and time to implement their plans.
According to the study, the organization uses the recordings of reformed people who tell the stories of their transformation. They track weak points in their lives to push them toward killings and bombings.
The study revealed that Daesh has used this method more successfully than Al-Qaeda. Studies carried out by European research centers suggest that most of the Europeans who have joined Daesh had criminal records in these countries for involvement in violence and drugs. Some of them are also accused of sexual crimes.
Among Daesh recruits with a previous criminal record was Yousuf Al-Ghamdi, who was killed in a shootout with police in Taif on July 4, 2015. He had been convicted of moral crimes in 1427 H.
Neir Al-Balawi, who blew himself up in a suicide attack near the Prophet’s Mosque, was convicted earlier of drug peddling.
Abdurrahman Al-Omar, who carried out a suicide bombing in Al-Qatif at the end of Ramadan, was earlier arrested for participating in gatherings demanding the release of those being held on the charges of terrorism.
