U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was in war-torn Somalia Friday to meet with senior government officials. Security was extremely tight for Ban's arrival in Mogadishu. The BBC said his visit was kept secret until his arrival and the U.N. leader was wearing a bulletproof vest when he arrived at the airport. Major roads in the city were closed and all flights were canceled for security reasons, the BBC said. Somalia, which has not had a functioning national government for two decades, has seen a surge in violence from Islamist militants. At least 60 militants were killed Thursday in an attack by fighter jets in the country's Gedo region, military officials said Friday. Air strikes on al-Shabaab training camps in Bardhere targeted senior officials, an official told Shabelle News.
