Sami Janazra, 43, a Palestinian detainee, entered his 57th day of hunger strike on Thursday while in solitary confinement in Israel’s Ela prison in Beersheba.
Janazra, a resident of al-Fawwar refugee camp near Hebron, was initially kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in November and openly declared his hunger strike in March after the Israeli Authorities renewed his administrative detention — internment without trial or charge.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has confirmed, Thursday, that Janazra went on hunger strike on March 3, protesting his administrative detention, without charges, despite his deteriorating health condition.
PPS also stated that Israeli prison authorities have since moved the hunger-striker between Israeli prisons as a way of pressuring him to end the strike, before placing him in solitary confinement at the start of this week.
His health has continued to deteriorate since the end of March when he began suffering kidney, chest, and teeth pain, eventually having difficulty walking and experiencing permanent dizziness.
According to his family, he has lost 52 kilograms of his overall weight and has gone through critical cardiovascular disorders along with a hypotension.
Janazra went on hunger strike while being held in the Negev detention camp, in the Negev Desert, and on March 13, he received another administrative detention order for four additional months, for the second time since his abduction on November 15, 2015.
He was recently appointed a hearing at the Israeli Supreme Court to be held on May 16th after an initial appeal was rejected earlier in April at the Ofer military court.
