Israeli police on Tuesday shot and killed a Palestinian woman in the Old City area in Jerusalem, according to local sources.
WAFA correspondent said Israeli policemen opened fire towards the woman, identified as Fadwa Abu Teir, 51, and left her to bleed on the ground without providing her with first aid. Abu Teir then succumbed to her wounds within minutes.
An Israeli police spokeswoman said the fatal shooting incident came after the woman allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer.
At least 186 Palestinian, including 43 children and nine women, have been killed by Israeli forces since the outbreak of unrest across the Palestinian territories in early October 2015, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The ministry explained that since the beginning of 2016, 42 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, including 16 minors and two women.
“There is mounting evidence that, as tensions have risen dramatically, in some cases Israeli forces appear to have ripped up the rulebook and resorted to extreme and unlawful measures. They seem increasingly prone to using lethal force against anyone they perceive as posing a threat, without ensuring that the threat is real,” said a report by Amnesty International.
