The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) managed to thwart an attempted attack on Israel-held territory in the Golan Heights late Sunday, the military said in a statement.
The statement said a group of armed militants approached to the border from the Syrian side of the cease-fire line with an explosive device to attack IDF forces in the area, adding that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft targeted the squad thus preventing the attack.
Israeli soldiers in observation posts recognized the squad and summoned the air force, the Hebrew Walla news website reported, with a source adding that at least three of the militants were killed.
The foiled attack came amid reports in foreign news outlets charging that the IDF attacked various targets of the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah group as well as targets of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's military.
On Saturday, the Al Jazeera network reported that the IDF attacked Hezbollah's military bases in Syria overnight Friday.
The Saudi-based Al-Arabiya network said the IDF raided two Hezbollah convoys on Wednesday, killing at least one person.
Israel refused to respond to the reports, as it usually does under similar circumstances of air strikes in Syria.
In January, Hezbollah militants launched five anti-tank missiles at an IDF vehicle in the area of Mount Dov along the Israeli-Lebanese border, leaving two Israeli soldiers killed and seven wounded.
