Egypt's Foreign Ministry Friday expressed its regret for the lack of commitment of the warring parties to have the ceasefire extended and to have resumed hostilities once again, thus endangering anew the lives of the Palestinian people, who have been reeling under Israeli aggression over a month.
"Since reaching a ceasefire deal, Egypt made continuous and indefatigable effort over the last days to bring views of Palestinian factions and Israel together and sponsor indirect negotiations to meet the needs of Palestinians and provide protection for them to avoid a resumption of military acts," said a statement by Foreign Ministry Friday.
In this framework, most issues of mutual interests have been agreed on and very limited points have not been settled yet, the statement said, adding that the ceasefire should have been extended in order to reach an agreement on such points.
The statement added that Egypt renewed its calls for self-control and not targeting civilians. It asserted its keenness on providing protection for unarmed Palestinian people, it pointed out.
The statement said that Egypt calls on all parties to abide by humanitarian international law and put the interests of Palestinians into consideration.
Israeli army Friday resumed its air strikes on the Strip in response to Palestinian rockets fired after a three-day truce expired and talks brokered by Egypt on a new border deal for the blockaded coastal territory hit a deadlock.
