Islamabad - KUNA

The Afghanistan government on Thursday released 65 alleged Taliban fighters from its Bagram prison in central Parwan province despite strong condemnation from the United States. The 65 prisoners were freed and walked out of the prison compound this morning, said member of the Afghan government body reviewing the detainees, Abdul Shakoor Dadras in a press statement, adding that their cases were reviewed and there is no reason to keep them in jail. The United States had strongly condemned the decision, where the US Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) said that the men were dangerous individuals directly linked to attacks killing or wounding 32 NATO personnel and 23 Afghans. Violent criminals who harm Afghans and threaten the peace and security of Afghanistan should face justice in the Afghan courts, USFOR-A added.
