Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi said on Sunday the recent oil agreement with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) would benefit all parties, and is based on the country's constitution, noting that it is a start to end dispute between Irbil and Baghdad.
In a statement, Al-Abadi said "the interest of Iraq is greater than all of us, and that the threat of terrorism is a threat to all Iraq, which invites us to solve all the problems," adding "we don't think that there is a problem which cannot be resolved in accordance with the constitution, justice and fairness." Al-Abadi's remarks came following his meeting with a Kurdish delegation headed by Nechirvan Barzani, the Prime Minister of the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, who arrived in Baghdad earlier in the day to discuss the pending issues between the KRG and the central government, including the budget dispute on oil exports.
According to the statement, Barzani said the steps taken are encouraging to all Iraqis, and they are looking forward for opening a new page and to end all outstanding issues through continuous discussion meetings.
The Iraqi premier affirmed on the need to confront terrorist organization ISIL, which he described forms an economic challenge to all of us.
Last week, Iraqi Minister of Oil Adel Abdulmahdi and the Kurdish region reached an agreement to ease the tensions between the governments of Baghdad and Kurdistan.
