Rita Ora thinks her split from Calvin Harris may have been due to mixing their personal and professional lives.
The 24-year-old British singer discussed her breakup with the 31-year-old Scottish DJ in an interview for the July issue of Marie Clarie. Ora and Harris started dating in May 2013, and announced they had been done for "some time" in June 2014.
"There was a reason why I split up with him," she told the magazine. "And there was a reason why I'm at this point in my life where I feel like I have so much musical freedom, and I don't have to explain myself to anybody."
"It was more of a thing where I was in awe," she shared. "I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he could do no wrong. I thought he had my back and that he'd never steer me wrong. But then 'I Will Never Let You Down' came out, and everything started to go a bit weird."
Ora and Harris, who wrote and produced the track, released the single in March 2014. The singer was slated to perform the song at the Teen Choice Awards in August 2014, but was forced to cancel after the DJ refused to give his permission.
"You'll only know 1 side of the story RE Teen choice awards because I choose not to talk to the papers about every aspect of my personal life," Harris tweeted the next day. "But just know I had a damn good reason."
Ora subsequently dated Tommy Hilfiger's son Ricky Hil, who told the Mirror he and the singer would never collaborate professionally due to her fallout with Harris. The couple have since split, and Harris is currently seeing American pop star Taylor Swift.
