Geneva - Arab Today

The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue has organised an international panel debate, under the theme, "Migration and Human Solidarity - A Challenge and an Opportunity for Europe and the MENA Region," at the headquarters of the United Nations, UN, in Geneva, for the annual International Migrants Day on 18th December.

In his speech during the debate, Dr. Hanif Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, praised the UAE’s leading humanitarian role and its assistance to refugees from various parts of the world while stressing that this vision in line with the country’s humanitarian path that was established since its creation. International reports also confirm the UAE’s commitment to helping and assisting refugees and migrants suffering from the effects of crises and instability in their countries, without considering their nationalities and beliefs, he added.

Al Qassim called for the adoption of a new joint working agenda that will unlock the potential of international social mobility, as well as for the combined efforts of Europe and the Middle East to respond united to the current migrant and refugee crisis.

Idriss Jazairy, Executive Director of the Geneva Centre and Director of the Debate, called on all UN member countries to implement the UN Global Compact for Migration while pointing out that the migrant and refugee crisis can be solved through dialogue, alliances and multilateral diplomacy.

The debate’s participants adopted its conclusion based on the "Geneva Declaration on Mobility and Human Solidarity."
