Tunis - Tap

Tunisia is taking part in the 36th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) General Conference held on October 25-November 10, 2011 in the UNESCO premises in Paris. The Tunisian delegation, led by Education Minister Taïeb Baccouche, took part in the works of all the technical commissions held on this occasion. It also attended the works of the legal, administrative and financial commissions as well as the foreign relations and partnership commission. In the address he had delivered to the UNESCO General Assembly, Mr. Taieb Baccouche paid tribute to this organisation for the technical support it had provided to Tunisia during the democratic transition period notably in the education, culture and information fields. In another connection, Mr. Baccouche had conferred with Mrs. Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General, on ways to boost co-operation between Tunisia and this UN organisation. During the 36th session, Tunisia has been re-elected member of the UNESCO Executive Bureau for a new four-year term, in the person of Mrs. Fatma Tarhouni, Secretary-General of the National Commission for Education, Science and Culture. Besides, the Education Minister chaired the co-ordination meeting of the heads of the Islamic countries' delegations organised by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) on October 27th, 2011 as chairman of the 10th general conference of this organisation.
