The Syrian National Council holds today its first congress in Tunisia.About 200 members of the SNC are meeting near the capital Tunis in a bid to further unify the Syrian opposition. “We need to unite the opposition and make it stronger,” SNC leader Burhan Ghalioun has earlier said. “We need to emerge from this congress with a higher level of organisation, clearer targets and more momentum,” he added. Moncef Marzouki, the new Tunisian president on Friday affirmed his country’s support for the Syrian people in their fight for democracy. “I regret the fact that the Syrian revolution has become more violent and moved towards civil war, with the possible risk of foreign intervention,” Marzouki told France 24.
