Khartoum - Arab Today

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday opened the Sudanese Youth Forum in Khartoum, held with the support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, in the presence of Shamma bint Suhail bin Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth.

The two-day event, is part of the Arab Youth Centre initiatives, launched by H.H. Sheikh Mansour at the World Government Summit 2017, aimed at developing a comprehensive strategy that adopts the priorities of Arab youth and outlines their future.

The Forum is being held in co-operation with the National Union for Sudanese Youth to be the first and largest event of its kind in gathering an elite of Sudanese youth to share their aspirations and objectives to serve their country and work hand in hand for the future of Sudan.

The youth forum will focus on information, culture, employment, education, leadership, health and safety, self-capacity, identity and values, as well as giving, volunteering, entrepreneurship, environment and guidance.

President al-Bashir said the state has placed great concern on the youth through policies, programmes, projects and activities being carried out to provide genuine opportunities to them in the field of economic and political participation. The youth are pillars of the present and they are the whole future, he added.

He also lauded the UAE for its continued co-operation and support to Sudan in all fields.

Minister Shamma Al Mazrui praised the Sudanese youth, saying that they are capable of chalking out a plan to build a brighter future for the country. She stressed the need to provide opportunities for young people to work, produce, innovate and create, pointing out that it is the responsibility of all to create success stories for young people.

She further said that Arab youth are the hope of the nation and that the forum will result in a lot of proposals that they must work hard and implement. She underlined the UAE’s attention to young people through its youth council, where their voices are being heard by decision makers.

The Forum is attended by 200 Sudanese youth between the ages of 18 and 30. They discuss the challenges they face in youth workshops and brainstorming sessions with key decision makers from ministers and entrepreneurs to develop solutions that support them in all fields.
