Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says he plans to hold a Palestinian general election in Gaza and the West Bank on May 4th next year. Palestinian President Mahmound Abbas said: "When we talk about a government today, what we mean is a transitional government, a technocrat government, a government made up of independents, and a government that allows the state to be recognized as legitimate and agrees with my policies, not a Fatah government or a Hamas government or one from the other parties, but a government of independents until elections. After the elections it is up to the Palestinian people to choose their government. We plan, God willing, to have the elections on May 4th 2012."
