The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held its second introductory meeting for the Ambassadors accredited to Bahrain to shed light on its candidacy for the membership on the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva for 2019-2021.

Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri gave a detailed explanation on the candidacy of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the membership for the Human Rights Council of the United Nations for 2019-2021 in the elections scheduled for October 2018 in New York City.
He also reviewed Bahrain's efforts, achievements and programme for candidacy for the Human Rights Council membership as well as the voluntary pledges it submitted for the membership in order to enhance and protect human rights and promote culture and awareness at the national, regional and international levels.
The Assistant Foreign Minister affirmed the Kingdom’s outstanding record in the field of protecting and promoting human rights and its distinguished position at the regional and international levels, under its constitutional, legal, judicial, and comprehensive administrative system, based on its religious and cultural values and in line with the international human rights standards under the reformist approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He said that Bahrain has made qualitative achievements by establishing and forming independent human rights institution to protect and respect human rights, namely the National Institute for Human Right -in line with the Paris Principles-, Ombudsman, and the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission.
In addition to the adoption of modern laws to promote popular participation in political and public affairs, the protection of human rights and the priority care groups such as the rights of children and the elderly, combating human trafficking, as well as welfare, rehabilitation and employment of the disabled and protection from domestic violence.
The Assistant Foreign Minister also stressed on the Kingdom’s continued efforts to activate the policies aimed at sustaining the development of Bahraini women and increasing their contribution to public life, and to play an international role that enables them to exchange the best practices and experiences in the field of equal opportunities for both genders.
A film highlighting the Kingdom’s main achievements in the field of civil, economic, political human rights, the history of Bahrain’s democratic experience, women’s rights, children’s rights, combating trafficking in persons, rights of the disabled, religious tolerance and freedom of opinion, in addition to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 was screened. Copies of the brochure for the candidacy campaign were also distributed.
