Manama - Arab Today

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs, Ambassador Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, participated today in the 53rd anniversary of Palestinian revolution celebration held at the Embassy of Palestine in Manama.

The Undersecretary, in his speech, noted the efforts of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to support the Palestinian people’s struggle and legitimate rights in various forums.

He took pride in the efforts of the late Amir, His Highness Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, in support of the people of Palestine, recalling his brotherly relations with the late Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat, since the outbreak of the revolution.

He also stressed that the Palestinian revolution has set an example of the legitimate struggle to restore rights, regardless of all obstacles, such as the decision of the American Administration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer its embassy to the city of Jerusalem, which was a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions.

The Undersecretary highlighted the sacrifices of Palestinians in defending their homeland and their political efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

He affirmed the international community’s rejection of the policy of Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories, in accordance with Security Council resolution 2334 on 23 December, 2016, which calls for an end to the Israeli settlement in the West Bank, and confirms the strong international support for the two-state solution.

He stressed Bahrain's support for the legitimate rights of Palestinians, noting that a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East would only be achieved through the full withdrawal of Israel from all the Arab territories occupied in 1967, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and the return of all Palestinian refugees to their homes, according to the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, the two-state solution, the peace process and the Arab peace initiative 2002.
