Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa has called for the respect of the concept of state sovereignty, not interfering with internal affairs, as well as the consistent adherence to international human rights principles, peaceful living, and respecting others. According to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), during a high level meeting which is held alongside the UN General Assembly 67th session, Sheikh Khalid rejected the application of double standards, stressing the importance of preventing hate and discrimination. He voiced Bahrain s hope to see the UN General assembly establishing new procedures for enforcing international law. During the meeting, Sheikh Khalid indicated that the rule of law is tied to both the national and international framework, namely the principle of law which is part of nations' civilizations and the role assigned to the UN, pointing out that the UN charter is associated with international human rights agreements. The Kingdom of Bahrain has joined number of international agreements relating to human rights and the rule of law, he added. The Minister also referred to the importance of UN member countries' respect for international law in order to protect nations from crimes against humanity and aspirations for political participation which should be tied to the history of each country in order to enhance stability in the world. The Minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has managed to lay the ground for a modern state that is based on democracy, institutions and the rule of law, which aims to strengthen modern society principles adhering to its values.
