Bahrain Ambassador to France Dr. Nasser Mohammed Al-Balooshi today stressed Bahrain’s firm commitment to democracy. He underlined Bahrain’s strides, citing particularly the promulgation of a constitution enshrining human rights principles after the endorsement of the National Action Charter in 2001 by a sweeping majority. Dr. Al-Balooshi was speaking as he addressed a forum titled “The Future of the Arab Spring and the Developing Situation in Bahrain”. The event was attended by Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) members, senior officials and decision-makers representing leading international organisations, including UNESCO, the International Commission and The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD. He dismissed any arbitrary comparison between last year’s deplorable events in Bahrain and the popular uprisings in most Arab countries. He pointed out in this regard the flagrant external interference seeking to subvert Bahrain’s security and stability. He outlined the measures undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the aftermath of 2011 unrest, highlighting the establishment of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry and the Human Rights Ministry, describing them as unprecedented in the whole region.
