The Arab Human Rights Committee on Wednesday convened here Wednesday, with experts from 10 Arab countries taking part in the meetings to review implementing an Arab Charter on Human Rights. In a press conference on the sidelines of the meetings, Abdulhahim Al-Awadi, Assistant Under Secretary of the UAE Ministry of Justice for International Cooperation and Head of the Arab Human Rights Council, said that the three-day meetings will discuss and review reports of Arab countries on the measures it took to implement the basic items contained in the Arab human rights charter. Also, Al-Awadi noted that the committee is the first constructional mechanism specialized in human rights issues and basic freedoms in the region, with the main function is to monitor and watch human rights status in Arab countries, stand by its values by committing to its articles in the charter, take necessary measures to implement the best, and strengthen the path of Arab countries in protecting its own people.
