Two people were wounded Tuesday in a shootout between gunmen and the police in the southern Beirut suburb of Lailaki, security sources said. The sources, who spoke to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said the wounded were a gunman from the Zeaiter family and a member of the Internal Security Forces (ISF). They said members from the Zeaiter clan, angered by an ISF law enforcement crackdown on violators launched Tuesday, opened fire on authorities after they seized four vans on the Lailaki overpass. The police returned fire, the sources said, adding that they were in pursuit of the gunmen. Meanwhile, another group of Zeaiters briefly blocked the Lailaki bridge with burning tires. A Lebanese Army squad quickly intervened to de-escalate the situation. From DailyStar
