London - AFP

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is to be investigated over remarks made about referee Chris Foy after Sunday's 1-0 Premier League defeat by QPR, the Football Association (FA) announced on Monday. The 34-year-old Portuguese -- who replaced Carlo Ancelotti as manager after a stunning spell in charge of Porto -- admitted he was "very aggressive" with Foy after accosting him following the defeat. Villas-Boas -- who guided Porto to the Europa League trophy, the league title and the domestic Cup last season -- claimed Foy failed to treat both sides equally, with the referee sending off Chelsea duo Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba. "He (Foy) lost it.. he was card happy towards the (Chelsea) team," he said about a defeat that saw Chelsea lose ground on leaders Manchester City after their 6-1 humbling of city rivals United. It is understood that the FA are aware of the former Porto manager's comments and will decide whether or not to charge him with improper conduct by Wednesday afternoon. Should he be charged and found guilty, Villas-Boas could be fined or even suspended. It is not the first time that the young manager has criticised match officials as he also gave vent to his feelings after games against Manchester United and Stoke.
