Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made important remarks as he signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in the UN headquarters in New York about Israeli forces’ suppressing of weekly rallies. Abbas signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change on behalf of the State of Palestine.
Scores of Palestinians were shot and injured with live ammunition and suffocated as Israeli forces quelled the weekly Friday rallies, according to Palestinian Info and News Agency (WAFA).
Abbas’ remarks during the global climate change convention ceremony in New York hit the front page headlines in the Palestinian dailies. He said: "We are proceeding with state-building on democratic bases and our people won’t accept ongoing Israeli occupation."
He was quoted as stressing that the Palestinian people won’t accept that the status quo to continue. He was also quoted as stating: "Israeli occupation is destroying the climate in Palestine and Israeli settlements are destroying nature in Palestine," WAFA reported.
