Israeli occupation forces killed last year 97 Palestinians, including 36 children and eight women, and injured 840 others in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to a human rights report. In its annual report for 2016, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said that among the victims were 88 Palestinians killed in the West Bank, including 33 children and seven women, while nine Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip, including three children and one woman.
The Israeli occupation forces last year committed more crimes of deliberate killings and violations of the right to live against Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories, according to the report. The report documented 58 field executions against Palestinian civilians in the occupied West Bank. In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation forces increased the use of excessive force against protests in the border areas. The report added that four Palestinians were shot dead last year during clashes. The occupation also killed three Palestinians, including two children, during the shelling of military sites belonging to the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.
The IOF also imposed more restrictions on the freedom of movement in the Palestinian territories and continued the siege of the Gaza Strip for the tenth consecutive year.PCHR Director Raji Sourani gave a detailed presentation on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory and the flagrant violations of the Israeli occupation against Palestinian people in 2016.
He said that the launching of the report this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory, adding that this year has witnessed the most repressive and abusive acts against the Palestinians.Sourani also highlighted the Israeli settlement in the West Bank and Jerusalem, as part Judaization plan, saying that it is a fundamental and main violation that threatens Palestinian people.
He added that human rights organizations will spare no effort at the international level and will work with United Nations bodies and the International Criminal Court to ensure that Israeli war criminals will be prosecuted and will be brought to justice as well as to lift the unjust siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
