Zambian police on Thursday warned people behind a spate of fires to public properties that they will soon be arrested.
Zambia has witnessed a spate of fires to public buildings since the arrest of the country's leading opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema last week.
The country's ruling party has accused the main opposition party of being behind the fires in order to create tension in the country but the opposition party has dismissed the accusation.
On Sunday, a fire gutted a popular market in Lusaka, the country's capital in which over 120 shops were destroyed while a hostel at a public college on the outskirts of the city was set ablaze on Monday.
Fire also gutted a warehouse in the southern district of Choma where traders stored their merchandise on Tuesday while a court building in central Zambia's Kabwe town was also set ablaze this week.
The latest incident involved another court building in western Zambia's Mongu district which was set ablaze in the early hours of Tuesday.
Esther Mwaata-Katongo, the police spokesperson, warned the arsonist that their days were numbered because they will soon be arrested and prosecuted.
The police have since launched investigations, she added.
"We reiterate our warning that all those who engage in such criminal acts should count their days because soon they will be nabbed and prosecuted," she said in a statement.
