TRANSCO, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, ADWEA, has once again been awarded the "Best Utility of the Year-UAE" at the Asian Power Awards 2017 held on 20th September.
Over a hundred senior executives and key industry figures representing several Asian utilities flocked to Bangkok, Thailand, for the ceremony. The awards were expertly judged by a group of internationally recognised figures in the field of power systems.
In its 13th year, the region's most prestigious awards, dubbed as the ‘Oscars of the Power Industry,’ once again recognised ground-breaking projects and trailblazing initiatives in the power sector in Asia.
The UAE was represented by the ADWEA and its system operator, Transco, which won the "Best Utility Award" for the second consecutive year. It was recognised for the innovative project, "Unit-Wise Economic Dispatch Process through Automatic Generation Control."
The UAE delegation was led by Dr. Salem Al Harthi, Director of Projects, representing Managing Director Mohamed Bin Jarsh, and he was accompanied by Zain Alabdeen Al Jefri and Ehtesham Uddin.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Al Harthi said, "We are truly honoured to be here because we represent the UAE’s power industry. We are continuously working to achieve operational excellence in economic dispatching, and we are thankful to the jury of Asian Power Awards for recognising our work and honouring us with this award."
The first phase of the same economic dispatch enhancement project was awarded last year. It has helped save millions of US dollars in terms of fuel savings and improved efficiency. It has also reduced environmental impact through the use of less fuel to generate the same amount of power and contributed to achieving carbon credits.
