Peter Mutharika
Lilongwe - Arab Today

Newly elected Malawi president, Peter Mutharika, will on June 21 wed his long time lover Gertrude Hendrina Maseko at a private ceremony in his village in Thyolo district.

"A private ceremony to bless the wedding will take place on Saturday 21st June, 2014 at St. Michael and All Angels CCAP Church in Blantyre and thereafter reception will be held in the village at the Mutharika family home in Thyolo district," reads a statement from State House in Lilongwe.

Mutharika (74) has three daughters whose mother died some time back and he has since been living alone.

Before the May 20 elections, Mutharika made several public appearances with his wife-to-be, Gertrude, and the latter has always been on Mutharikas side at every public appearance since her lovers ascending to power.

This will be a third time for Malawians to witness a wedding of a leader in power following one by Bakili Muluzi, Malawis second president, another by Bingu Mutharika, Malawis third president.
