Member of the Kuwaiti Parliament or National Assembly Marzoug Al-Ghanem has announced that the kuwaiti parliament representing the Arab group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union ( IPU), succeeded on Friday to foil a bid to suspend membership of Egypt and Tunisia to the IPU. Marzoug Al-Ghanem, said in remarks carried by Kuwait news agency /KUNA/ on Friday that he and his fellow legislators persistently opposed a proposal stipulating suspension of the membership of the two aforesaid Arab states noting that the IPU should rather support these two arab parliaments in view of the temporary situation the two countries are facing in view of the arab sprinc changes that occurred there. Al-Ghanem indicated that other proposals, presented by the Kuwaiti delegation of legislators, in the name of the Arab Group, were taken into consideration, such as erasing sections, contents of which contradicted the Islamic Shariaa in the five-year strategy of the union, and abstention from shunning any Gulf legislative body for any reason. The new strategy of the IPU is free of any insinuation of discrimination of parliaments; such as alluding to some legislative bodies as of advanced nations and others as of developed countries. During the two-day meeting of the executive committee of the IPU,recommendations to be adopted by the committee, would be referred to the IPU convention, due in kick off in Bern, Switzerland, in the middle of next October.
