Amman - Petra

Jordan and France have signed two deals as part of legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries. The agreements were sealed during a visit to Paris last week by Justice Minister Ibrahim Omoush at the invitation of French Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice and Freedoms Michel Mercier. Omoush told Petra on Saturday that the first agreement on the fight against crime calls for extradition of criminals and persons wanted for freedom offenses punishable by the law. The second, he added, involves offering mutual assistance in criminal issues in the fight against crime “in a manner to safeguard the rights of the citizens of the two countries and enhance bilateral cooperation.” The minister said the two deals would take effect after constitutional measures had been finalized before endorsement, stressing his ministry’s keen interest in cementing judicial cooperation and benefiting from French expertise in that respect. During his visit, Omoush held talks with top French judicial officials, including the president of the court of cassation Vincent Lamenda.
