Indonesia and Jordan shared the view that a political solution must be found to settle conflicts in Syria to prevent increasing number of victims.
Conditions in the Middle East, especially in Syria, had been discussed during the bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan at Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday, Indonesias presidential aide for international relations Teuku Faizasyah stated after the meeting.
"The development in Syria has been thoroughly discussed. We especially learnt of the assessment from Jordan regarding the things that are needed to tackle the problem in the future," he explained.
Faizasyah added, "The President as has been known has already conveyed Indonesias position clearly in the G20 Summit in Russia, (and) future measures, Indonesia hopes, should be taken to deal with the Syrian problem."
"The Geneva process was also discussed just now. Basically the two heads of state agreed that political solution is a must for solving the Syrian problems," he reiterated.
In the meeting President Yudhoyono was flanked by coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs Djoko Suyanto, coordinating minister for economic affairs Hatta Rajasa, minister state secretary Sudi Silalahi, cabinet secretary Dipo Alam, foreign minister Marty Natalegawa, industry minister MS Hidayat, education minister Muhammad Nuh, trade minister Luthfi Hidayat and Indonesian ambassador to Jordan Tegu Wardoyo and Teuku Faizasyah.
King Abdullah II meanwhile was accompanied by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad and other officials.
At noon, President Yudhoyono held a lunch at the Istana Negara palace in honor of King Abdullah II.
