United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed the hope that a woman would succeed him and lead the UN since its establishment is 1945.
“It's high time now for a female secretary-general after eight men at the helm of the world organisation”, he said.
Eleven candidates, including five women, are now in the fray vying to succeed Ban Ki-moon, whose second term would conclude on December 31..
The UN Charter stipulates that 15-member Security Council shall recommend a candidate to the 193-member General Assembly for its approval
